'Book Artists' fair to be held in the area

Whilst Welshpool Town Council is cautious about hosting too many book fairs in the town, book artists from the area will be gathering in Newtown in September to take part in the annual Wales Artists' Book Fair.

The event will be held at Hafan Yr Afon in Newtown from September 7-8.

The event will include some demonstrations and workshops which will be held at Oriel Davies over the weekend, including making a Memory Book with Sian Barlow and making sandwich books with local Newtown artists Ezma Zhao. See Oriel Davies' Website for details.

The event will coincide with the Newtown Food Festival.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Artists' books are book forms inspired and created by artists – a festival of books that are hand crafted, paper, fabric, sculpture, printed, drawn, stitched, small press, and artist led.

"Wales and the borders have many wonderful book artists and we want to give them the opportunity to showcase their work as well as artists from further afield.  We also want to encourage more visitors to the area to find out about what book art is and get involved in the creative process and all the possibilities that artists' books can be."

The Wales Artists' Book Fair will be upstairs at Hafan yr Afon in Newtown.

Last week we reported how Welshpool Town Council urged caution over hosting too many book fairs that could threaten one that they support annually over August Bank Holiday.
