Police take drugs clampdown to Welshpool pub

06/09/2024 @ 01:17

Welshpool’s drugs problem has hit the headlines once again this week and local officers have revealed that they took the fight to a town centre pub last Saturday night.

The town has become a major growing centre for cannabis, with two raids this week finding almost £500,000 of plants growing in empty buildings in the town centre.

And in what is not believed to be connected to those raids, police have confirmed that they made four arrests at The Welly last Saturday night.

In a statement released this afternoon, Dyfed-Powys Police stated: “On the evening of Saturday, August 31, police carried out an operation aimed at targeting antisocial behaviour, alcohol-related disorder, violent crime and drug use and distribution in North Powys.

“As part of their activity they attended The Wellington in Welshpool, where four people were arrested.

“A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. The man has been issued with an out-of-court disposal outcome, while no further action will be taken against the woman.

“Two further men were issued with out-of-court disposal orders – one for a matter relating to a court warrant, and another in relation to the possession of drugs.”

Police are continuing to ask for the town’s help in clamping down on drugs, and if you have any information, contact them through 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
