Cllr quits meeting claiming it had become a “talking shop”

A Welshpool Town Councillor quit last night’s chaotic monthly meeting midway through after declaring that it had become a “talking shop”.

The meeting was littered with controversy with councillors storming out and even the Operations Manager calling in after believing there was an inference of staff stealing (story on site).

But one of the more stunning interventions came from Cllr Nick Howells (pictured) who was one of the many following online from home.

He interrupted proceedings to declare from out-of-the-blue: “I am a doer not a talker, and tonight’s meeting is a talking shop. I have really had enough, so good night.”

He then hung up leaving a stunned chamber to continue the meeting.

Later in the meeting, Cllr Howells was one of four councillors removed as a proposed member of the new Town Hall Transformation Project Board, in favour of four different councillors. That story is also available on the site.
