Local photographer, Brad Carr, has had three of his photographs of Wales place in the top 10% of the world in their respective categories in a prestigious global photography competition.
The striking local lonely tree that features in ‘Limelight’ was photographed near Belan lock in 2021.
‘Reach’ was created in The Great Wood at Gregynog Hall in 2022 and ‘A New Dawn’ depicts a mystical, prehistoric scene from the sacred landscape of Eryri/ Snowdonia.
“I am absolutely delighted and incredibly proud that three of my photographs have made it so far in this prestigious competition,’ said Brad.
“I have never been one for entering competitions, preferring instead, to be my own judge. But, since I have begun to see the power of using my voice as a warden and messenger for the natural world, the idea of extending my reach through such means has become greatly appealing.
“Photography and nature have been instrumental in my own healing process over the past few years, and I harbour a deep reverence for the spirit of the Welsh landscape and its’ mystical powers.
“Having spent just six years honing my craft behind the camera, I am greatly looking forward to seeing where my photographs of Wales might place in future competitions, and where else the camera might take me.”
Brad shares his skills and knowledge through group workshops and private one to one tuition. His debut photobook, ‘Finding Light’ is available for pre-order via his website, and is due for release in 2025.

What are the Natural Landscape Photography Awards?
The competition aims to represent landscape photographers who recognise the power that comes from truthful depiction of the natural world, whether shooting digitally or on film.
While other competitions may allow complete freedom in digital manipulation, this competition is for photographers who choose to work within the more traditional bounds of the medium, while still expressing themselves creatively.
It addresses the idea that the unique quality photography has over other artistic mediums is its grounding in reality. The competition showcases the skill of these photographers in revealing the wonder of the natural landscape.
