One person was tragically killed and a child airlifted to hospital following last night’s crash close to The Horseshoe pub near Berriew.
Dyfed-Powys Police have also confirmed that two arrests have been made following the incident that closed the main A483 road to Newtown for nearly 16 hours.
They are appealing for witnesses and say the collision involved three cars – a red BMW X3, blue Audi S4, and white Toyota Yaris – at about 6.15pm.
The red BMW and the blue Audi were travelling northbound, while the white Toyota was travelling in the opposite direction (southbound towards Newtown).
“Sadly, the driver of the white Toyota Yaris died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said. “A child passenger of the same car was air lifted to hospital with serious injuries. HM coroner and next of kin are aware and specially trained police officers are supporting their family.”
One man, aged 29, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving. A second man, aged 33, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road was closed overnight while specialist collision investigators carried out their enquiries. It re-opened at 9.50am today (Sunday).
