Dan Jones saw his hopes of a first Commonwealth Games medal dashed this morning after watching his 4x100m freestyle teammates drop a clanger in the heats.
Dan, 29, who has four fourths to his name from the last Games four years ago, was rested this morning to be ready for tonight’s final, but the team was disqualified after finishing fifth overall and booking their spot.
A take-over technicality led to the lads being disqualified, meaning Dan will have to wait for tomorrow’s 4x100m mixed freestyle relay for another potential chance to medal.
Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100m freestyle team booked their spot in tonight’s final after finishing third in the heats.
Dan is one of three Welshpool High School alumni who are in Team Wales. Adele Nicoll takes part in the shotput on July 28, while Joshua Whitehouse will compete in the judo later in the Games, which are taking place in Glasgow.
