The Westwood A have recovered from a heavy defeat in the first game of the season to occupy top spot in Division One of the Welshpool and District Darts League sponsored by The New Saints FC, writes Steve Lloyd.
The leaders moved to 20 points after a 6-1 win at the Punchbowl who had Adam Jones as their only winner on the night. Dave Watson, Gareth Ashley (180), John Gibbs (16-dart 501) Alan James all won as they also took both doubles.
The Green Dragon A edged out the Kings Head A, 4-3, which leaves them both in second spot with 19 points.
The Compass won 6-1 at the Grapes A to also move onto 19 points. Colin Quinn took the only game for the hosts, while the Compass points came through Brian Jones, Cameron Williams, Dan Hoseine, Gareth Richards and both doubles.
The Westwood B (14 points) are in fifth after a 4-3 win against the Red Lion A. Carl Dockerty, Chris Proctor and an impressive Jordan Harding (180 x 3) won for the hosts, while Clive Jones and Tom Evans won for the visitors with the doubles shared. The Red Lion A are in ninth with nine points.
The Green Dragon C (12 points) stay just above the Oak (11 points) after losing out by the odd point. Aled Jones, Mike Walsh (116 out shot) and both doubles went to the Oak while the Knight boys - Dave, Matt and Roger - all won for the Dragon C.
In the second division, the Pheasant occupy top spot with 17 points after a convincing win 6-1 against Castle A.
Rob Finney, Matt Austin, Richard Jenkins and Bobby Gough won for the Pheasant with Steve Allensbrook for Castle. The Pheasant took both doubles. The result keeps Castle in second spot with 15 points.
Also on 15 points is the Owl & Pussycat who won 6-1 against the Red Lion Misfits (10 points) with Dumbo Williams taking the only game for the Misfits. George Pryce, Callum Greatorex, Joe Jones and Spencer Roberts (180) all won for the Owl who also bagged the doubles.
In a three-way tie for second place, the Kings Head B (15 points) beat visiting Angel 5-2. Tommy Kelleher, Paul Jones and Alex Howard won for the hosts, who took both doubles while Kyle Goodwin and Jack Pryce replied for the Angel who are on 14 points.
In a very tight league, The Black Lion beat The Powis Arms 5-2 to put both on 14. For the Black, Ryan McVeagh, Iestyn Pryce (17-dart 501), Rowan Chapman and Dan Morgan (180, plus a 19-dart 501) won. The doubles were shared.
The Grapes B also move to 14 points after a 3-4 reverse to the Lion Caerhowel (12 points). Rob Jones, Kieran Woodward and one doubles match counted for the Grapes B.
