A Welshpool football coach will swap Newtown for New Zealand after landing a job with one of the best clubs in Australasia.

Ed Harding, Newtown’s Head of Goalkeeping, is switching Latham Park for a new role with Wellington Phoenix, who finished runners-up in the Australian A-league this season.

The Phoenix are one of the few clubs in the world to compete in a league of a different confederation from that of the country where it is based.

They play at the Sky Stadium, a 34,500-seat multi-purpose venue in Wellington.

Harding came through the Newtown Academy before returning as Head of Goalkeeping after gaining his Coaching degree at Liverpool John Moores University and attaining his UEFA A licence.

He has also played for Welshpool, St Helens, Guilsfield and Caersws.
