Welshpool’s Continental Market weekend is set to return next summer, but with a new musical addition of local artists to bring a more vibrant edge to the event.
The visit of dozens of traders bringing food from across the world to Welshpool has proved popular in recent years, but the Town Council is keen to work with local musicians to make the 2027 edition bigger and better.
Cllr Morag Bailey floated the idea after attending the Newtown Food Festival this summer where she said the music “raised the food festival to be something much better”.
“People would enjoy it more if there was entertainment,” she said.
Newly co-opted councillor, Vix Davies, said she would be willing to speak with the organisers of the Welshpool Music Festival to tap into their experience and knowledge to bring local artists to a street stage.
“They would be incredible to get involved because the Music Festival and this combined could make it something even more special,” said Cllr Davies.
The Continental Market is set to return from July 16-18, and there could also be a provision for local food producers to also sell at the event.
An update on discussions will be provided at the next meeting in November.
