Who is coming next to ‘fast food’ roundabout?

The development of fast food restaurants and coffee chains at Buttington Roundabout is set to continue after another 4.5-acre parcel of land was placed on the market.

Despite robust opposition from Welshpool Town Council, and concerns over obesity and the impact on town centre trade, Costa, Starbucks, Greggs, McDonald’s and KFC have all sprung up at the location in the past five years, bringing dozens of jobs to the town.

Even Elon Musk has had a piece of the action with a Tesla charging facility constructed and a 40-bedroom hotel also waiting to start work.

But this week, Halls Commercial has advertised a new opportunity to “acquire approximately 4.5 acres of commercial and roadside development land in a highly prominent position on the edge of Welshpool”.

“Located at the key intersection of the A483 and A458, Rhallt View benefits from excellent road frontage and strong connectivity towards Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Newtown.

“The remaining land is available as a whole or in part, with opportunities also available for design and build development on a pre-let basis, subject to agreement and the relevant consents.”

Halls Commercial added that it was “suitable for a variety of commercial and roadside occupiers, subject to consent”.

Welshpool Town Council has made it a policy to object to any developments at the site, saying to detracts from the town centre whilst highlighting the growing litter problems blighting the picturesque Montgomery Canal close by.
