A local charity that has helped more than 4,100 throughout Powys during 2024 is seeking voluntary trustees to help them.

Citizens Advice Powys is part of the 85-year-old national charity helping people navigate a wide range of problems.

The charity provides free, impartial, and independent advice, helping individuals with the knowledge and confidence to move forward and influencing policies that impact lives.

It has offices in Newtown, Brecon, and Ystradgynlais, and outreach services in Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Knighton, and Hay-on-Wye.

"In 2024 alone, the organisation supported over 4,100 Powys residents, addressing 24,000 advice issues," said a spokesperson.

"Our work has resulted in nearly £1 million of problem debt being written off, £3.4 million of income secured for households, and £4.1 million of debt negotiated.

"As a charity, Citizens Advice Powys relies on a board of Trustees to ensure effective governance. These voluntary roles are essential to the organisation's operation.

"While specific qualifications or skills are not required, a willingness to undertake training is necessary. Trustees meet quarterly, usually virtually, contributing to key decision-making."

They added that a commitment of approximately three hours per month allows individuals to share their expertise and contribute to a crucial public service that provides a lifeline to those in need.

Anyone interested should contact the Chief Officer, Yasmin Bell, for an informal discussion.  Call 01686 617641 or email CEO@powyslca.org.
