Rail crossing damage closes main road

Motorists and rail travellers face lunch time chaos after an emergency road closure on the A458 due to damage on the line at the Buttington level crossing.

Reader Jenny Clarke raised the alarm after “swerving to miss the damage” at 11.10am and immediately called Network Rail.

“They have had the pictures emailed to them too and are sending an emergency repair team out,” she told us.

Transport for Wales have announced: “Due to a fault with barriers at a level crossing between Welshpool and Shrewsbury all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.”

While Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed: “Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey.”
