Armed officers among large police presence at Leighton Arches

Armed officers are among a large police presence at the Leighton Arches traveller site on the edge of Welshpool this lunch time.

Readers reported up to 10 police vehicles at the site this morning, and eye witnesses said armed officers were present, along with an ambulance.

One reader told us she saw an armed police officer at the entrance, adding: “It’s not what you expect to see on a Sunday morning in Welshpool!”

Another told us they saw a drone being used.

It is not clear at the moment whether the force was responding to an incident or if it was a pro-active police operation, and we have asked for official confirmation.
