A rapid response from Welshpool’s firefighters prevented a blaze from escalating, drawing praise from a reader that witnessed the drama.

Firefighters rushed to the scene on Sunday lunch time at Oldford, where a motorbike and fencing were ablaze.

“The firefighters were incredible with a neighbour’s motorbike going on fire and all of the fence,” said reader, Shelley Chave, who captured the drama from across the road.

“They responded so quickly and were so thorough. They were amazing.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service told us this morning:

“At 12.45pm on Sunday, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Welshpool Fire Station was called to an incident on the Prince of Wales Drive in Welshpool.

“Firefighters responded to a fire involving one private motorcycle, a wooden garden storage area, approximately four metres of garden fencing and domestic bins.

“The crew utilised two breathing apparatus sets and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“The motorcycle, wooden storage area, garden fence and bins were all completely destroyed by the fire.

“No casualties were reported. The crew left the scene at 1.24pm.”
