Welshpool will officially launch Christmas on Saturday with the Winter Festival getting underway in the town centre from noon.
The weather forecast isn’t kind, but nevertheless there are both indoor (at the Town Hall) and outdoor stalls offering excellent opportunities to pick up some Christmas presents.
Live entertainment will be played throughout the afternoon on the music stage, including performances from local Schools.
There will be a petting zoo, free caricaturist in the Assembly room, a balloon modeller, and various food options including cheesecake, doughnuts, James' food van and more.
Santa will of course be making an appearance, with his grotto, which is free of charge, set up in the Town Hall. Every child who visits Santa will receive a small gift.
A parade will take place from Welshpool Bus Station at approximately 4.40 pm when charity organisations/businesses/schools/groups are all invited to join in.
The parade will lead to the main stage, opposite the Town Hall, and the countdown for the Christmas lights to be switched will happen around 5pm, following a prayer from Rev Adam Pawley.
The Christmas lights will be switched on by Carnival King and Queen, Alice Jones and Idris Harris.
The event is expected to close at 6pm.
