High school and primary schools close as snow causes chaos

19/11/2024 @ 12:21

A number of schools have closed their doors for snow days, as the first snowfall of the season continues to cause problems across the Welshpool area.

High schools in Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Newtown and Llanidloes have all closed their doors, with Welshpool making a late decision to send children back home after 11.25am due to “worsening conditions”.

Primary schools across the area have also closed, including Leighton, Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng and the Church in Wales School on Salop Road.

Parents and carers will be hoping for some respite in the weather for the schools to open tomorrow, but they are advised to check the Powys County Council web site - https://en.powys.gov.uk/schoolclosures

But the temepratures are expected to drop even lower this evening and into the early hours.

Meanwhile, Dyfed-Powys Police have asked motorists to “only travel if your journey is necessary".

"Plan extra time for your journey. Increase your distances. Slow down,” the force has said.
