Christmas blockbuster for Welshpool cinema night

A classic Christmas film will be shown on the big screen early December as part of the monthly Flicks in the Sticks series which has been described as “an ongoing success story for the town”.

The initiative was reintroduced by the Town Council this year, showing films on the first Monday of every month in the Town Hall.

This week’s Events & Tourism Committee was told it is proving popular, with nearly 50 people enjoying the critically acclaimed Allelujah on Monday.

It is free to attend, and everyone is welcome to a cuppa and a slice of cake before the film is shown, with donations on the night going towards the evening’s running costs.

Next up in November is the award-winning Belfast, and then December’s offering will be Miracle on 34th Street, a timeless Christmas classic.

“We have a group of people that are coming every month now, who seem to be really enjoying it and help us to select our next films,” said Chris Davies, Chair of the Town Council Events & Tourism Committee, who reiterated it is open to all residents. “It’s going so well. We are very, very pleased. We are giving something back to the town by putting this on.”
