Youth centre building ‘surplus to requirements’

The building that houses Welshpool’s youth centre remains in limbo as Powys County Council remain undecided as to what to do with it.

Last night a spokesperson for the regional authority told us that the building has been “declared surplus to requirements and the council is looking at available options to dispose of the building”.

Back in March, Welshpool Town Council agreed to buy the building, but later withdrew its interest due to costs, so it has remained in limbo ever since. A bid to turn it into housing was also thrown out in May.

The building used to house the town’s swimming pool and the former skatepark was also located in the open area at the back.
