Montgomeryshire is mourning the loss of a local sporting legend who has sadly passed away.
Rob ‘Bonehead’ Jones was described by Caersws Football Club as a “club legend” in a tribute while he was also hugely respected in the local cricketing scene as a ferocious fast bowler for both Llanidloes and Montgomeryshire.
Tributes have flooded in to a social media post from Caersws FC who stated last night:
“Caersws Football Club are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of club legend, Rob ‘Bonehead’ Jones.
“Rob joined the club as a young goalkeeper, playing for our Reserve team for many years in the Montgomeryshire League, making a number of First Team appearances along the way.
“After his playing days, Rob became the groundsman at the club, a position he dedicated countless hours to over many, many years. Bonehead is a true Caersws Football Club legend.
“He was also an outstanding cricketer, playing for Caersws, Llanidloes, and at county level as a fast bowler.
“He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are very much with Rob’s family and loved ones at this sad time.”
