Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds has admitted live on American TV that he ‘pinched’ the costume from his latest Deadpool blockbuster that was warn by the character ‘Welshpool’.
Reynolds, and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney, have become the best ambassadors imaginable for Wales since taking over the now-Championship club, and it led to him creating the ‘Welshpool’ character for Deadpool & Wolverine, which was one of the hit films of last year.
It was later revealed that Wrexham striker Paul Mullin was the man behind the mask in the suit (pictured below), which is now on show at the club’s Race Course ground.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Reynolds revealed that he pulled off a “grand theft” when he walked off set with the costume worn by Welshpool, a variant of Deadpool that appeared in the movie.
It was prompted by the CBS chat show host asking: “What is Welshpool?”
He said: “I created a whole bunch of Deadpools and one of them was Welshpool, which I found out was an actual town, by the way, called Welshpool. So, there was some confusion!”
After playing a clip from the series showing the suit being unveiled at the club, Reynolds then admitted: “That is actually grand theft. I just stole that from Disney!”
They then went on to discuss the challenges of learning the Welsh language.
Reynolds, 48, is doing a round of appearances to promote season four of the award-winning Welcome to Wrexham which launches today (Thursday). He has described the series as a “march to history” after the club secured a record third successive promotion.
