The GWS Contractors-sponsored singles competition for the Welshpool and Distriuct Darts League attracted a whopping 54 players to Molto’s club, writes Steve Lloyd.

With the game also becoming popular with a younger element, an Under 25s event was held alongside, welcoming another 25 entries.

In the U25s, the last eight saw Bobby Gough beat Theo Davies, 2-0, while Oscar Hyland progressed at the expense of Jack Pryce.

In the bottom half of the draw, Dan Morgan beat Rhys Butler 2-1, and Cameron Williams beat Alistair Williams by the same score.

In the semi-finals, Gough beat Hyland 2-0, while Williams beat Morgan 2-1 to set up a grand final which went the way of Williams 2-0 in a superb game watched by a big crowd.

In the GWS Contractors competition last eight, Shaun Humphries beat Matt Knight 2-1 and Jordan Harding beat the impressive youngster Dan Morgan, 2-0.

Cameron Williams beat Duncan Cork 2-1 and Dave Rix beat Kacey Jones 2-1.

This set up an interesting semi-final between two committee members, Harding verses Humphries, which the former won 2-0 to book final spot against U25 champion, Williams, who beat Rix 2-1 to get into the final.

In the final, Harding came from behind to take a 2-1 win.

A big thank you to The Angel for hosting the competition at Molto’s club. The team that set up the six boards including Huw Humphreys, Chris Proctor and Rhys Roberts. The committee members for making it happen and running the competitions on the night.

The venue was superb and let us hope the league goes from strength to strength. Best turnout for years.
