Rhys set for WDF Youth World Masters

Rising Welshpool darts sensation Rhys Butler is in Hungary this weekend where he will be taking on some of the best young players in the world.

Rhys took the local scene by storm last season, winning the Welshpool and District Darts League with Green Dragon A at the age of just 12, and also debuting for the Montgomery & Radnor county side with a Man-of-the-Match performance.

But his biggest moment yet will be competing at this week’s WDF Youth World Masters in Budapest, after winning his spot through the Margam, South Wales, qualifiers.

“Rhys has exceeded expectations by rising so quickly in the sport and has achieved staggering success in his short time in it,” said Steve Lloyd from the Welshpool and District Darts League. “Thanks have to be given to Newtown Academy where Rhys has attended and from where he entered the youth qualifiers.”

Over 1,000 darts players from 70 countries will be playing in various tournaments in Hungary from October 9-12, with players also having the chance to qualify for the Lakeside World Championships.

The Youth World Masters journey will begin tomorrow (Thursday) with the finals taking place alongside the senior competitions on Saturday.
