Residents have just a couple of weeks left to have their say on the jaw dropping scale of development land being earmarked in a plan that could see hundreds of houses built across the area over the next two decades.
The Replacement Land Development Plan is due to be finalised following a public consultation that runs until October 7, and MyWelshpool has had a look at the plans which show former green belts and agricultural land being eyed for potential mass housing projects and developments.
Four Crosses, Guilsfield, Llanfair Caereinion, Arddleen, Berriew, Trewern and Forden could be set for population explosions should the plans come to fruition, with Welshpool’s Red Bank also earmarked for more mass development. Oldford could also double in size with a mix of affordable, open market and social housing proposed.
The proposed land for development has been submitted in the Candidates Site Register on the Powys County Council web site. You can view potential developments for your community through this link - Candidates Site Register .
Not all sites could be accepted into the final plan, and public opinion will be a critical consideration.
The issue will be discussed tonight at Welshpool Town Council’s full monthly meeting, and it is believed that Guilsfield Community Council is lining up a public meeting next week after the potential developments there were highlighted at their latest meeting.
Like most areas of the UK, Powys County Council has a housing crisis and is desperate to see developments happen to meet the growing local need for places to live. It is believed they have targeted another 1,300 homes for the county over the next decade.
