Guilsfield Primary School is celebrating the end of term by becoming the first school in Powys to receive the Gwobr Aur, Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Camus, Gold Award.
The award encourages schools to promote a strong Welsh ethos through a range of enriching activities that propel the children to enjoy learning Welsh.
The school’s Criw Cymraeg have worked hard to make sure they were able to showcase all the activities and opportunities on offer at the school.
The report noted that it was a whole school approach and that teamwork was clear.
The award is particularly sweet with the school becoming the first in Powys to previously achieve Bronze in 2017 and Silver in 2019.
“The school has met the success criteria for each target to a high standard and has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first school in Powys to attain the prestigious Gwobr Aur,” said Headteacher, Amanda Williams.
“Comprehensive evidence, which is consistent throughout the school, was presented in a PowerPoint presentation, pupils’ books and videos. Most compellingly, speaking directly with the children reveals the transformative effect this initiative has had on the children’s confidence in using Welsh and on their overall enjoyment of all things Welsh.”
