Sharp rise in people using Welshpool Meals on Wheels

07/12/2023 @ 10:39

Welshpool’s brilliant Meals on Wheels service is enjoying a rise in users, prompting organisers to restrict a price increase to just 50p for 2024.

The service, managed by the Town Council and operating out of the Ann Holloway Centre, delivers 62 meals a week through volunteer drivers in and around the Welshpool area.

That’s an increase from 45 meals earlier in the year, with many more being served in-house on a Friday for the new Welshpool Community Haven.

But Manager, Wendy Lewis, warned town councillors that costs of food and energy had risen, but she urged town councillors to still make it affordable to all, and at last night’s Services and Property Committee, they agreed to just a 50p increase for meals delivered in the Welshpool area.

It means it will cost £6.50 from the New Year for a hot two-course meal, but £7 for those delivered outside of the town. Meals served at the centre will remain at £6.50. All meals include VAT.
