A wonderful piece of Welshpool artwork is on its way to Paris where it will be displayed in the world famous Musee du Louvre.
Powis Castle has revealed that The Reception of an Embassy tapestry is heading across the channel after being carefully taken down from the Ballroom by its Collections Team.
The magnificent work of art will be part of the Mamluks, 1250-1517 Exhibition, which takes place from April 20 to July 28.
It will then continue its global journey to Louvre Abu Dhabi from September 17 to January 25, 2026.
This tapestry, woven in the mid-16th century, and based on a painting in the Louvre, tells a fascinating story of diplomacy and history, depicting a Venetian embassy’s reception, with intriguing connections to the Mamluk Sultanate and later, the Ottoman Empire.
Its rich detail and history make it a standout piece in this groundbreaking exhibition, exploring the unique and little-known Egypto-Syrian Mamluk Empire.
“It’s a truly special moment to see this incredible work of art travel the world, bringing the history of the tapestry to new audiences in Paris and Abu Dhabi,” the Castle announced.
