Welshpool council tax slice to be revealed on Wednesday

27/01/2025 @ 09:46

Welshpool council tax payers will be told on Wednesday how much more they will be coughing up for the next financial year.

Powys County Council has already declared it is expecting an extra 8.6% from tax payers for their share, and Dyfed-Powys Police has revealed an 8.9% increase, while Welshpool Town Council’s slice will be revealed at the next full council meeting.

MyWelshpool has been unable to cover the ongoing debate to set the new rate due to meetings being held behind closed doors, which is permitted should the council choose, but residents will be hoping it is modest to ease the burden caused by the shocking Powys and police hikes from April.

“Full council has to agree to a precept, this will be at its meeting on January 29 (Wednesday),” the Town Council told us in an update.

By contrast, Newtown Town Council have been debating their council tax precept in open sessions, with developments covered all the way by MyNewtown.

Last year, Welshpool Town Council raised their council tax share by a below inflation 3.9%.
