Banking Hub disabled access “awaiting permission”

02/01/2024 @ 09:23

While the introduction of the Banking Hub to Welshpool has been generally well received, disabled customers hope that access issues will be sorted soon in 2024.

Politicians heralded the opening of the facility, which is replacing the absence of the main high street banks, in December, but the town’s disabled population has been vocal in highlighting their frustrations.

But an insider at the Banking Hub reassured us last night that the wheels are in motion to sort the issue, which has been further complicated by the property being positioned on a trunk road.

“We are awaiting permission from the Highways Agency as the hub is located on a trunk road, which will hopefully be confirmed soon,” the insider told us.

“We know there’s been great anticipation for the Hub to open but rest assured that accessibility is a key priority for all Hubs and something we are mindful of when we are planning and refurbishing buildings.”

The Banking Hub has also applied to Powys County Council for permission to install a cash machine to the front of the building.

MyWelshpool has contacted the North & Mid Wales Trunk Agent for an update and timeline.
