Ysgol Llanfyllin’s Student Council has teamed up with MyWelshpool to produce a unique, student-led video showcasing life at the school through the eyes of its pupils.

David Williams, co-founder of MyTown Media Ltd, who operate MyWelshpool and MyNewtown, visited the school to deliver an engaging workshop on video journalism to 15 eager students.

During the session, Mr Williams taught the students the basics of video production and storytelling, equipping them with the skills to capture authentic and dynamic footage.

Following the workshop, the students split into teams, each equipped with an iPad, and set out to film what makes their school special. The result of their hard work was unveiled at the school’s Open Evening last night (Thursday), to a positive reception from parents, staff, and the wider community.

Dewi Owen, Headteacher of Ysgol Llanfyllin, expressed his pride in the students’ efforts, saying: “I am immensely proud of what the pupils have achieved. The only adult input into the project was Dave’s initial workshop, which really inspired the children into action. This project is a great example of how the Curriculum for Wales brings learning to life with collaborative, real-life projects linked to local businesses, producing a tangible outcome.”

The video, created entirely by the students, offers a fresh perspective on school life and is available to view at https://youtu.be/POiyJDlwFrc?si=d5BTQGMFnMhXtDvw.

“I was extremely impressed by the end product which the students pulled together from start to finish without any adult input,” said Mr Williams. “They had an extremely tight deadline, but rolled up their sleeves and produced a very professional video that showcased just how wonderful a school Ysgol Llanfyllin is.”
