It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

The Festive Season will officially get underway this weekend in the Welshpool area with the town’s new £25,000 lights being switched on, alongside several village Christmas Fayres.

The brand-new lights will be switched on tomorrow (Saturday) at 5pm after a race against time to get them here was completed with a successful test on Wednesday night.

Prior to that, there will be plenty going on in the town with a Winter Festival from 11am consisting of stalls, live music and not forgetting Santa himself making an appearance.

“We’re pretty much there and ready,” Town Mayor, Cllr Nick Howells, declared at Wednesday night’s full council meeting.

Mental health charity Ponthafren is also holding a Christmas Fayre from 11am-2pm at the Armoury tomorrow.

But Saturday’s fun will not just be in town. Guilsfield is hosting over 40 stalls in the village’s Old School, church and Community Centre. The church will also be offering the rare chance to go up in the bell tower and even ring the bells.

“I love where I live and if just one member from every household in the village came along on Saturday to support everyone, it’s been worth all the hard work,” said organiser, Carol Williams.

But it doesn’t end Saturday with Arddleen hosting its Christmas Fayre on Sunday from 10am-4pm.

Organisers promise a day full of fun with stands selling Christmas wrap, candles, skincare, jewellery, handcrafted wooden gifts, cushions, books and so much more. Father Christmas is also due to make an appearance.

Food and drinks will be available all day with money raised going towards the development of the children’s play area and a new roof for the Village Hall.
