Welshpool hub moving back to two days

Organisers behind the Welshpool Town Council Hub that opened at the Town Hall to help people through the winter months last year, say it will move back to two days a week from the end of next month.

The initiative proved popular last winter, and showed the need for a free gathering place, not just to beat the cold but to socialise and combat loneliness in the town.

And the public support has continued to come in with, this week, local resident James Pelling (pictured on right) donating the £260 that he raised from walking up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in challenging conditions this summer.

“The level of support, contributions and donations we have received from the people of Welshpool and the surrounding community has been uplifting and humbling,” said Town Mayor, Cllr Nick Howells, who received the donation from Mr Pelling.

“Welshpool Town Council, and particularly we at the Hub would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to James.

“We hope to extend back to two days towards the end of October (Tuesday and Thursday), when we will re-introduce the ‘ever popular’ baked potatoes.”

The Hub reduced to one day a week after the winter, but has continued to prove popular.
