National retailer Poundland will officially unveil its new interior look to Welshpool this weekend.

At a time when many national chains have turned their back on the town, Poundland have invested heavily in its Welshpool store located at the entrance to Berriew Street Car Park.

The store currently employs 11 staff, and is looking to recruit another after spending the past three weeks undergoing a major refit.

Freezers and chillers have been installed to expand the store’s food range along with a new fresh produce section, while the new layout has enabled them to expand the clothing range for men, women and children.

A number of other changes have taken place including a new roof and flooring while the whole store has been modernised, including back-of-house for staff to enjoy their rest time.

The official launch takes place at 8am tomorrow (Saturday) and Cllr Nick Howells, Town Mayor, has been invited to cut the ribbon. He will be joined by company mascot, The Pound Hound.

“It’s great what the company has done to the store, making it a one-stop shop for our customers with a better shopping experience,” said store manager, Annmarie Lockley. “I think it will bring more revenue to the Berriew Street Car Park too.”

Poundland first opened in the town in August 2015.
