Guilsfield tennis clubhouse bid steps up

Guilsfield Tennis Club has launched an appeal for support from the community after revealing plans for a new clubhouse that will be built in memory of a former lead member known fondly as “Mr Guilsfield”.

The club is keen to construct the much-needed facility in memory of Glynn Turner, who passed away last year following decades of voluntary service to the village’s clubs and societies, including many sport-related.

The Tennis Club has already raised some funds, but needs a further £8,500 towards the overall remaining cost of £17,000, and has launched a Crowdfunder bid which is approaching £3,000 to date.

“We’re building a tennis clubhouse in the heart of our community to encourage new and established players, young or old, to enjoy tennis,” a club spokesperson said.

“The new clubhouse will sit at the heart of the village, and we want as many people as possible in the community, local businesses, family and friends to get involved in the project and feel that they have a stake in encouraging tennis, providing healthy activities for our young people and investing in the future of our community.”
