Welshpool Olympian Adele Nicoll faces a nervous wait to find out whether she has done enough to make the Wales team for this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 29-year-old threw a season’s best of 17.50m to win the shotput at the Loughborough International, her final chance to impress the selectors ahead of the multi-sport event which she took part in four years ago, reaching the final.
Her throw was a B qualifying standard to put her in contention, but the final decision will be made by the selectors.
“It was good,” said Adele. “I just wanted to come here and strengthen my bid for selection which I think I have done. I am happy with my performance.”
Adele has spent the past few weeks training in the USA, and believes she can mount a serious campaign to become a dual Olympian by reaching the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Back in February, her Olympic dream came true when she became the first British woman to compete in the Monobob at the Winter Olympics. She also competed in the two-woman bobsleigh.
