The Welshpool parents of local Olympian Adele Nicoll said they can’t believe their bad luck after a car ploughed into their property, almost a year to the day that it happened the first time!
The latest incident happened during the early hours today, with another reckless driver taking out a large section of hedgerow at the front of their Red bank house.
Last year, a motorist hurtled into the property resulting in Justine and Paul Nicoll having to move out for seven months to ensure the property could be made safe.
“We just can’t believe this has happened again,” said Justine, who shared CCTV footage with us that shows the car seemingly taking a wrong turning at speed and hitting their fence before reversing and fleeing.
“Our bedroom is at the back of the house. We had gone to bed about 11.45pm and then I woke up to a loud noise, and was really confused. I thought I had dreamt it and couldn’t get back to sleep for ages.
“It was so strange as it felt like I’d had 10 hours sleep, wide awake, but the incident happened approximately 12.30am so, in actual fact, I had very little.
“At around 3.30am, Paul woke up and he looked at his mobile to see that our next-door neighbour had messaged and said “sorry to tell you this, but it’s happened again!”. Paul checked our CCTV – you couldn’t make it up!”
A lot more traffic is being diverted over Red Bank currently due to the closure of Back Road, and the Nicolls have informed Powys County Council of the accident, as well as the police.
“Thankfully, they did not hit the house this time but I would think that was only sheer luck for the driver, who hit and ran!” Justine added.
