Guilsfield Tennis Club is raising money to build a new clubhouse in memory of a prominent local personality who was widely regarded as ‘Mr Guilsfield’.

Glynne Turner sadly passed away last year after decades of service to the village as a volunteer across numerous organisations and causes.

He was an ardent supporter of the local sports clubs and the tennis club has launched a fundraising bid to erect a pavilion alongside its courts.

“Glynne was a leading light in the Tennis Club, and was also a huge supporter of Guilsfield sport, and the village itself,” a club spokesperson said.

“We have 10 teams playing in the Montgomeryshire Tennis League and we are the only club who does not have a clubhouse. So, we are busy fundraising for this much needed facility.

“Our planning application has been submitted, and we should know the outcome soon.”

The first fundraising event will be held on Monday, April 27, with a fashion show at Brongain Clock Tower, Llanfechain (SY22 6UF) with all proceeds to be split between The Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and the Tennis Clubhouse fund.

Tickets can be purchased from the Bottom Shop in Guilsfield or through any committee member.
