Darts champions sign off in style, as ‘Owl’ secure division two

Welshpool and District Darts League Champions, The Kings Head A have signed off their league campaign with another win, writes Steve Lloyd.

They came back from third-placed Compass with a 4-3 despite the home side’s Brian Jones and Gareth Richards winning. But Gareth Steadman, Jon Gamble (16-dart 501), Dave Rix all won for the champions with the doubles shared. 

Second-placed Green Dragon A did all they could to keep the title chase alive, and finished their season with a 6-1 win at the Oak Guilsfield.

Den Harris, Rhys Butler, Shaun Humphries, Rob Shingler and Mitch Butler won the singles with the doubles shared.

The Westwood teams played out their home and away games on Friday evening and in the Westwood B’s home game, the ‘A’ won 4-3. Carl Dockerty and Jordan Harding won for the B while Alan James, Duncan Cork and Gareth Ashley won for the A team with the doubles shared.

In the reverse fixture though, the B beat the their A side 4-3 with Gareth Ashley (154 out shot), Alan James and Duncan Cork (116 out shot) all winning, while Chris Proctor and Ben Davies and both doubles went to the B’s.

The Green Dragon C played hosts to the Red Lion A and won 5-2. Gethin Stephens, Dave Knight, Roger Knight and Phil Rollinson won for the Green Dragon C, while Gwyn Evans won for the Red Lion A. The doubles were shared. 

The Punchbowl and the Grapes are playing their game Sunday evening. 

In Division Two, congratulations go to the Owl & Pussycat after securing the title with a fine 6-1 win against the Castle A team. Ian (Speedy) Ward, Matt Knight (180), Joey Jones, Callum Greatorex and both doubles for the champions, with Mark Jones replying for the Castle A.  

Runners-up, The Pheasant, returned from the Powis Arms with a 6-1 win with Alan Richards, Billy Evans, Richard Jenkins, Matt Austin (180) and both doubles going to the Pheasant, while Simon Richards (180) won for the Powis Arms.

The Angel beat the Grapes B 5-2 with Jack Pryce, Jack McNicholas, Kyle Goodwin and both doubles for the Angel. The Grapes B saw Macauley Nichol Davies and Robbie Davies win. 

The Kings Head B edged out The Black Lion 4-3 with Tommy Kelleher, Alex Howard and Billy winning for the Kings Head, and Iestyn Pryce and Dan Morgan for the Black. Doubles were shared.

The Red Lion Misfits are playing the Lion Caerhowel Sunday evening.
