A huge street party in the town centre will be the centrepiece celebration for a week-long series of events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Welshpool Town Council is working alongside the Royal British Legion (Welshpool branch), 1940s Committee leader, Alan Crowe, and the Rev. Adam Pawley to make it an occasion to remember.
What’s On:
Sunday, May 4: VE Day parade and Church service
Members/groups in the parade are meeting at the Town Hall from 10.15am, where they will then move over to Park Lane entrance and form the parade ready to march to St Mary’s Church.
The parade will start at approximately at 10.35am to arrive at St Mary’s at 10.45am and be seated ready for the service at 10.50 am.
After the service, members will form outside the Inglenook Cafe and parade back to the Corn Exchange, Welshpool Town Hall, where refreshments will be served.
Monday, May 5: Street party - Broad Street 1pm - 4pm
Featuring live acts and tables and chairs supplied for people to bring along their own picnics/refreshments.
Performers include Welshpool Church In Wales choir, saxophone quartet Reed Between the Lines, and D-Day Debbie. Free event for all to enjoy.
Thursday, May 8: Ceremony at the Memorial Garden
Located at Howell Drive, the Memorial Garden will host a service from 10.50am and is likely to finish by approx. 11.30am.
Thursday, May 8: Afternoon Tea, Assembly Room.
Free ticketed event with live entertainment on the stage, including pupils from Ysgol Gymreag Y Trallwng and Welshpool Church In Wales School. BOOKING IS REQUIRED!

The beacon on Red Bank will be lit at 9.30pm.

Showing of the VE Day special A Royal Night Out in the Assembly Room, Welshpool Town Hall. Free entry. Refreshments available.
