Following last Friday evening’s shock 30-7 defeat to bottom-placed Caernarfon Athletic, Welshpool will want to get back to winning ways in their derby match against arch rivals Newtown at the Maesydre, a game which kicks off at 1.30pm, writes Gary Williams.
With the Championship and promotion already secured, the final two games of the season (Newtown and Machynlleth) give Pool the opportunity to play some expansive rugby and see if they can add to their impressive points tally.
Head coach, Daley Jones, said: “We need to forget about last week’s disappointing result and get ourselves fully focussed on the challenge that Newtown will provide.
“The boys are chomping at the bit to get back on the field and show that last week was a freak result. We’re looking to play running rugby and give our supporters something to shout about.”
In Division Three North East, third-placed COBRA 2nds visit mid-table Mold Athletic. At full strength the Meifod boys should be strong enough to secure the win.
Elsewhere, the only other games involving local clubs this weekend are at Youth level with COBRA, buoyant after winning the North Wales Youth Cup last weekend, visit Ruthin on Friday night, whilst Newtown Youth travel to Denbigh Youth on Saturday.
