18/02/2025 @ 11:57

The semi-finalists of the Canalside Carpets League Cup have now been confirmed as Green Dragon C, Green Dragon A, Westwood A and the Kings Head A, writes Steve Lloyd.

The Green Dragon C came from 3-2 down to win 4-3 in what must be the upset of the round as, despite being at opposite ends of the league, it seems the cup still has its unpredictability.

Dave Knight and Paul Banfield won for the Dragon C, while Gareth Richards, Cameron Williams and Dan Hoseine won for the Compass before the Dragon C won both doubles.

The Green Dragon A came from two down to win 4-3 against the Punchbowl. Neil Astley and Adam Jones took the first two singles before Dave Boyle, Mitch and Rhys Butler won for the Dragon A. The Dragon A then ensured a win with the first doubles.

The Kings Head A overcame a close game with the Westwood B 4-3, with Chris Proctor and Carl Dockerty winning for the visitors while Kacey Jones, Dave Rix and Oscar Hyland won for the Kings Head A. The match was won on the first doubles.

The last team to book their place in the semi-finals was the Westwood A after a 5-2 win over the high-flying Pheasant. Duncan Cork, Steve Lloyd, Gareth Ashley and Alan James ensured the win, while Rob Finney won for the Pheasant. The doubles were shared.

Meanwhile, the semi-finalists for the Will Nunns Consolation Cup are now confirmed as The Red Lion A, Powis Arms Pool Quay, Grapes A and Castle A.

The Red Lion Llanfair came from 3-2 down to win 4-3 in a tight game despite the league difference. Charlie Weaver, Guy Weaver and Lewis won for the Lion Caerhowell, while Tom Evans and Cai Watkins kept the Red Lion Llanfair within one game. The Red Lion Llanfair then won both doubles to progress to the semi.

The Powis Arms Pool Quay put in a superb performance to ensure their progress to the last four with a fine 6-1 win over the Red Lion Misfits. Sam Evans, Konrad Scott, Harry Jones and Alun Jones all won for the Powis, while Bob Titley was the only winner for the Misfits.

The Grapes A beat the Oak 4-3 after coming from behind in a close match. Sean Jones and Gareth Isaac won their singles, while Aled Jones, Mike Walsh and Dai Walsh made it 3-2 to the visitors going into the doubles which were both won by The Grapes A.

The last team to book their place in the semi-finals of the Will Nunn Cup is Castle A after a fine win over the Owl & Pussycat. Paul Roberts, John Lewis and Ian all won for the Castle, while Speedy and Matt Knight won for the Owl. It all went down to the last leg with the score at 3-3, before the Castle A won the decisive doubles.

The finals night date and venue will be announced.

Back to the league this week and both divisions are very tight with only five games to go. Good luck to all teams.
