Welshpool host closest rivals Teirw Nant this afternoon at Maesydre knowing that victory will guarantee promotion to Division One North, writes Gary Williams.
It’s first against second with Teirw Nant being the only team to put a dent in Pool’s impressive season when they won 29-28 earlier on.
Pool, on home ground, will be looking for revenge and know that a win will not only secure a promotion spot, but a bonus point win would turn them in to champions with three games still to play.
As always, home advantage could play a big part in the final result but Teirw Nant are more than capable of putting Pool’s promotion party on hold for another week if they don’t perform to their best.
Welshpool’s Head Coach, Daley Jones, said: “We all know what’s at stake against Nant. It will be a massive game for the club and we’re ready for the challenge that our visitors will present.
“We know that a win in any of our four remaining games will be enough for promotion but the boys, after suffering their only loss of the campaign to the opposition, want a win badly.
“It’s the job of the coaching team to keep their feet on the ground and play their usual game. If we can do that, we’re confident we’ll get a result but are taking absolutely nothing for granted.”
In another boost for the Maesydre club, the second team are playing again, away to Bishop’s Castle.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Newtown travel to lowly Abergele where they will be looking for maximum points. However, on their own patch, Gele are a tough proposition and this could be very close.
In Division One North, COBRA entertain Ruthin and will hope to maintain their current good form and seal the points. A win could move them in to fourth place in the table.
COBRA’s second string face a tough away trip to take on Wrexham 2nds who currently sit on the top of the Division Three North East table.
The Meifod boys, in third place, might fail to get the one promotion spot at the season end but they are certainly going to cause all the front runners a problem providing they get their full squad out on match day.
Llanidloes’ home game against Ruthin 2nds has been postponed due to the visitors being unable to field a side. This game will be replayed at a later date.
