The son of one of the Premier League’s greatest goalkeepers has signed on the dotted line for Newtown until the end of the season.
Julian Schwarzer Garcia is the 25-year-old goalkeeping son of former Middlesbrough and Fulham stopper, Mark Schwarzer, who made 109 appearances for Australia as well as over 500 Premier League games.
Schwarzer Garcia makes his way to Montgomeryshire after a spell with Indonesian Liga 1 side, Arema FC, and is a product of Fulham’s academy, following which he had loan spells in the English non-league system before playing in the Malaysian Super League and Liga 1.
He has also made three appearances for the Philippines national team, qualifying through his mother, and is described by his new club as “an extremely quick and agile goalkeeper who is comfortable on the ball”.
Robins Head Coach, Callum McKenzie, said: “Julian is an exciting signing and fills a place in the squad that we’ve clearly needed to strengthen. Julian’s had a really interesting career and his experience and in particular his distribution will add another dimension to our game in phase 2.”
The player said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Newtown. I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead and I’ll do whatever I can to help the club achieve its goals for the remainder of the season.”
