Village club resign from league over pitch problem

One of Montgomeryshire’s longest running village teams has been forced to withdraw from its league after alleging that new owners of their pitch have stopped them playing.

Meifod play in the MMP Central Wales League North, having served amateur football well for years, but it has all appeared to come to a sudden halt following a club announcement.

In a statement posted online over the weekend, the club stated:

“Due to circumstances out of our control, we have had to take the extremely difficult decision to tender our resignation to the football league.

“After fantastic support previously from the owner, we have been told by new management we no longer have use of their pitch and facilities and are not welcome at what has been our home for countless years.

“Along with the expectation to cover additional rising costs that are just not realistic for a small village club, we don’t have any other choice at this stage of the season.

“Thank you all for your support. We are absolutely gutted that we find ourselves in this situation. Good luck to all for the remainder of the season. Meifod FC.”
