Thankfully no casualties were reported from this morning’s blaze that closed Berriew Street and sparked a major emergency services response.
Firefighters from all local stations were joined by specialist teams from Aberystwyth and Shropshire following the emergency call shortly after 9am.
The road was closed with the blaze contained to an apartment of multiple occupancy in the upper floors of a building.
It caused widespread disruption with businesses on the street being unable to open but the good news was delivered this afternoon by Dyfed-Powys Police.
“Dyfed-Powys Police attended reports of a fire at a property on Berriew Street, Welshpool, at around 9.15am this morning.
“The fire has been extinguished and all persons have been accounted for and no injuries were reported.”
Earlier, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue told us: “At 9.10am, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomery, Llanfyllin, Newtown and Aberystwyth Fire Stations, supported by crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, were called to an incident on Berriew Street in Welshpool.
“Crews responded following reports of a fire within a house of multiple occupancy (HMO).”
The road was reopened by at lunch time, and there has been no cause given to what started the fire.
