Zebra Crossing light removed from canal!
The items were revealed by the town’s very own self-titled clean-up minion, Cllr Kelly Meredith who added that even a bike and pram were also discovered.
Volunteers were assisted by ‘The Mantis’ a specialist piece of equipment that can trawl the bottom of canals to remove rubbish, and their findings were shocking!
“They did two days of clean-up and found all sorts of things that were at the bottom of the canal,” said Cllr Meredith.
“They found a bike, microwave, a doll pram, a rolled-up bundle of Astro turf, car tire, orange cones, bike tire, a stump and lots of litter.
“However, my favourite piece that they found, after I saw it under the Severn bridge, was a complete zebra crossing light pole. It took multiple people and the Mantis to lift it out of the canal.
“Oddly, no one has any record of a pole being nicked so we are all baffled as to where it came from!”
Cllr Meredith said that there was still plenty of things to remove and they would welcome anyone who has a magnet or wishes to help.
“There is still a scooter, Powys County Council metal rubbish bin at Potters Bridge, a motorways sign at the railway bridge, lots of cones, a panel of siding at the lock, and much more to get!”
