Call to re-do faded Welshpool road markings

29/06/2026 @ 11:40

Welshpool’s Mayor has called on the town’s county councillors to lobby the highways department and redo the faded road markings that are creating traffic hazards in the town.

At the latest full council meeting, Cllr Richard Church was briefing colleagues on the upcoming work to resurface Brook Street in next for five nights, but the Mayor, Cllr Bill Rowell, wanted assurances that something would be done about the shocking state of the road markings in several areas.

“Can we also make sure that the road markings in the town which are fading away are renewed?” he asked Cllr Rowell.

“Outside the Westwood, we are getting quite a lot of people who don’t know what they are doing at that point and are getting no help from the road markings.”

Cllr Church, a cabinet member for the current Powys administration, said he would be bringing up the matter with officers at County Hall, and noted that some road markings “done two or three years ago” had already faded.

The 'Back Road' is set to be resurfaced over five nights starting next Monday.
