A part of Welshpool town centre has been cordoned off this morning following what has been described as a “serious incident” last night.
A multi-agency response, which appears to have included officers from both Dyfed-Powys and West Mercia police forces along with specialist forensic and firearms officers, has been on the scene since around 2am this morning.
A police helicopter was also heard overhead during the night.
Investigations are centering around Church Street close to The Cross, and Traffic Wales North & Mid are reporting that it could remain closed until “later today” and to avoid the town centre.
An officer on the scene told us that investigations will be going on "for some time yet".
The short stretch of road from NFU Mutual to The Cross is closed off completely as of 9am (Sunday), but the rest of the town centre remains open.
