Blood service urges residents to donate

A blood donation session will take place at The Hafren in Newtown later this month, with organisers calling on local residents to book an appointment and help support hospitals across Wales.

The session is scheduled for Tuesday, 22 April, and there are currently a large number of appointments available.

The appeal comes as the Welsh Blood Service says it needs to collect around 350 donations every day to meet demand from 19 hospitals across the country.

Donations are used in a wide range of treatments, including emergency care, surgery and ongoing medical conditions, meaning a consistent supply is essential.

A spokesperson said that giving blood is a simple process that takes under an hour, but can help save up to three lives.

Residents in Newtown and the surrounding area are being encouraged to book in advance to secure a slot.
