A special sub-committee has been created so that Welshpool can bid for an £83,000 grant that can help to boost the town centre ahead of the Tour de France’s arrival next year.
With the world’s sporting glare falling on the town in July 2027 when Welshpool hosts Day Three of the world’s biggest spectator sporting event, Welshpool Town Council is keen to capitalise and is leaving no stone unturned.
At last night’s Operations and Development Committee meeting, it was unanimously agreed to create a specialist project board to bid for the Pride in Place grants available through Powys County Council to ‘transform a public space in the town’.
The board will consist of five councillors who will look at the scope of the work that can submitted for funding alongside the Town Clerk and Operations Manager.
“This could be a really exciting project for the town centre and it could be amazing by having the town looking fantastic as we approach the Tour de France next year,” said the Town Clerk, Richard Williams.
