New Yellow Warning issued for ice

09/01/2026 @ 12:01

They’ve been spot on so far, so we best take note of a new Yellow Warning that has been issued by the Met Office forecaster this lunch time.

The Welshpool area has largely weathered the Storm Goretti snowfall, with the morning rainfall limiting the impact from the overnight snow.

But cold temperatures are coming in this evening prompting the new warning, this time for ice.

“Partially thawed snow refreezing, accompanied by freezing fog and a few wintry showers, will bring the risk of ice overnight into Saturday,” the warning states.

The yellow warning will continue through to midday tomorrow with temperatures expected to drop to as low as -5°.

What should we expect?

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
